Should I start with academic or academic kickstart?June 1, 2020 at 1:18pm
The academic-kickstart seems to suit me and even hugo-academic installation instructions say clone academic-kickstart repo. But what about updates? Hugo-academic has releases so I could take v4.8 and upgrade to next version instead of taking whatever is in the master branch any given day. The kicskstart repo doesn't seem to follow this logic and there is only master branch.
Are hugo-academic + things under exampleSite same as academic-kickstart? Why it is recommended to clone kickstart repo?

You need both. I'll tell you what worked for me. When you actually look into the
academic-kickstart-master/theme/academicfolder you'll find it empty so you basically need to put the
hugo-academic-master(you can change its name to academic and delete the empty folder) into
themes/academicfolder. It won't work otherwise. Also, you have to edit the
config.tomlfile that is in your root directory by copying the content from
themes/academic/exampleSite/config/_default/config.tomlfile. You can view your website now using
hugo server -D.Hope it helps!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't really answer my question. There are two ways to use hugo academic: a) clone hugo academic repo in which case you can upgrade to stable version. b) clone academic-kickstart repo in which case your upgrade takes always latest from master (which might be between versions). I'm just wondering why the option b is recommended.
