Inline Calculator ?

February 26, 2019 at 3:28pm (Edited 3 years ago)
Am I having a brain fart ? Do we have an Inline Calculator ?

I haven't seen one. But having an inline calculator would be very helpful. For example, when I am budgeting for a month, I often add up all of my various utility bills and use it as a single budget. It would be great if I could add (or subtract) from the budget by doing a simple expression rather than have to open a separate calculator, entering the existing amount, and then add the new additional amount to then come a total.

It won't be too hard because all of the functionality is there internally, just need to implement the UI. Would you want something more sophisticated then simply entering a value like "53.32 + 424.22 + 84.62 + ..." in the budget cell? It seems like if you are adding up your bills it could become long and you couldn't see most of it in the small cell
it could add it up as you are entering them (so it adds the first two numbers before typing the third) but that seems like it'd be hard to make sure it's accurate (can't scan what's entered)
fwiw, feel the need to say this somewhere: I've been traveling since last Thursday so haven't been able to work. Will aim to release a new version soon though.
I think the UX for adding it up as you type would be difficult as you cannot review previously entered values. I personally like the idea of always displaying the formula when the cell is active and only showing the sum when not active.
Similar to Google Sheets or Excel. I've been using Google Sheets and this is how I use it.
You can see that the highlighted cell shows the sum.
In this image you can see when the cell is activated that [1] the sum is shown as a tool tip and [2] the active cell expands the size as the formula.
The reason why I like this is because I can go back and see how much money was budgeted for the various reasons.
+1000 Brad Marshall...... That would be awesome !

Unfortunately not, there have been bigger tasks with higher priority. I want this though too. Will bump it up in priority.
