Moving an account to "Off Budget"

February 10, 2019 at 3:37am
I initially created my saving accounts as "on budget" and now want to move them off budget. I'd prefer not to re-create them, though, I can re-import and re-categorize if necessary.
Is there a way to move an on budget account off budget?

Hey, sorry I missed this! Unfortunately you can't do that right now. There are some complications because you are moving money out of the budget, and if you moved the account back on-budget all of the transactions would lose their categories, so it wouldn't be reversible. It should provide the ability to do it though with maybe a big warning

That makes sense. Luckily it’s a easily importable account!

Another option to consider here is to allow categorization of off budget transactions. This obviously wouldn't affect the budget, but would be nice for searching/reporting. This could pollute the categories with non-budget related things though.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have thought about that, and originally wanted to do it. But it gets weird because you probably want different categories, and it becomes sort of a secondary category system. But maybe it's good enough to allow you to categorize and simply create "off-budget" categories in the budget if needed

if anything it could keep the category info but hide it and you can then quickly switch between on/off budget. will think about this some more
