Spectrum vs Slack?July 10, 2018 at 3:22pm
What's the trade-offs between these two platforms? Should we use both? Please share any thoughts you have!

In terms of dev-adoption, Slack is probably winning (although Spectrum certainly seems to be the cool new kid on the block).
In terms of money, Slack is free for DevLifts. Spectrum would not be free.
In terms of discoverability, Spectrum is much more discoverable because all public conversations are indexed by Google.
In terms of community, I'm not sure. I like that our Slack requires an invitation (so it doesn't just become full of members with little conversation).
Reiterating here: We are not currently axing Slack. We are currently trying to decide if Spectrum would be better, or if we should use both. I could definitely see Spectrum being great for forum-based discussion because threads are so easily shareable. But either way, we are having this discussion so we as a community can make a decision together.
I've not used Spectrum before, but my first thoughts are that, since I already use Slack for multiple groups professionally, I'm turned off for the need for another app/chrome tab for one group. I do, however get the need for indexing/archiving valuable conversations as those will add value to new members.
its very nice to not have to remember to pin or save a thing since things disappear in public slacks
also instead of a bunch of threads being used per group spectrum contains it to one tab haha
Yeah I don't really want another messaging app. However, I'm down for moving from Slack. I am falling out of love with Slack. Recently moved to Discord with a few friends and am liking it alot.
Spectrum seems interesting so far. Never heard of it before this.
