Collab with Althea or build our own mesh?

March 2, 2019 at 5:37pm (Edited 6 months ago)

I think if we want fully decentralised communication we might want to start with building the network first. Something like https://www.opengarden.com/ where we can incentive the community through tokens (depending on the traffic they've handled). Sort of a https://storj.io/ but for internet sharing.

Edit: After a short discussion a collab with https://althea.org/ makes a lot more sense because Opengarden isn't open-source (the irony) :))

From my understanding their goal is to get you to use their Firechat app. I can't find anywhere they state they want to release open source software or hardware. Take a look at https://althea.org imo its much more interesting and would be a good team to collaborate with.

Thanks so much for sharing this! My concept however was to add a docking station to the Clarity device. And this station can be many things including a node on the mesh network, a node on ethereum or even a home assistant similar to https://snips.ai/. But most importantly that's how we can build the network. We can even give away some USB Wifi dongles + an app that people can run on their machines. Flashing a firmware is a good MVP but it's too much work for the ordinary human :)

I had a similar concept for my project when I was trying to figure out how to launch meshnet nodes for a competition to help the syrian refugee crisis. I didn't have the team\know how to get a scalable network going but it seems like althea has done all the legwork and you could make the Clarity device dock on to your hardware that runs Althea's software alone with the snips.ai etc you want to add
