Replace Registration with Bonding

September 12, 2018 at 7:03am
In order to break the circle of buying a new phone each year we might have to work on the terminology a bit. When a person gets a new phone they should be reminded that this isn't just another "phone". I've replaced Registration with Bonding Ceremony, that special moment when you make the device yours.
Feels weird?

The idea is great but it doesn't sound obvious and natural. My english is not so good and still developing and that's why I think it should be clear for everyone in the world. My proposition is "Adaptation" or something like "Adoptation moment". It's come from biology and it close to us - humans.

This actually comes off as almost religious wording to me?

I'm not sure if there is anything wrong with registration, reflecting that a phone does not need to be replaced every year can be done in better ways, and even if some people wanted to there are other avenues to support like redistribution of older devices, recycling, etc.

Maybe instead of "Bonding" it could be something more inline with what you are doing to make the device yours. Say for example, "Create Identity" or "Resume Identity" if migrating to a new device.

The idea of using bonding is to remind people that this device is different and they should not wait for new shiny generation but instead treat it as something very personal. We can work on the terminology later. The concept is to come up with different terminology and not use the same "sign in" "register" and all that. New era - New language :)
