The source code of former version EpicollectPlus is available on Github https://github.com/ImperialCollegeLondon/EpiCollectplus, though not under a free license (no license is provided).
Is the source code of Epicollect5 available under a free license in a git repository on the web?

Has the discussion ever risen in the core team?
The Wellcome Trust works actively to "support researchers to develop and test innovative ways of making health research open, accessible and reusable"* (for example), how about ensuring software to be open source?
My issue is simple: Epicollect5 definitely has a 5star user experience. But proprietary code places it in the same bucket as GAFAM spywares. Which is not the spirit of the Epicollect community if I got it right!
Hi, we currently do not have any plans about going open source. Things might change in the future but it might never happen as well. If you are looking for an open source data collection solution we would recommend ODK https://opendatakit.org/
Also, please be aware Epicollect and Epicollect+ (the old versions) will reach the end of their life in October 2019
