Thank you, and good bye!

To all Figma Plus users,

Our goal with Figma Plus has always been to inspire the community to enhance their Figma experience. However, in order to achieve this, we had to bypass a few security measures that were designed to prevent third-party code from running on the Figma system.

Unfortunately, this has raised some concerns from the Figma team, as their top priority is to protect their users' data and security. After a thorough discussion on this matter, we have decided it would be best to cease development of the Figma Plus project. We will remove all public download links and related materials to the project.

It has been a great journey building and releasing Figma Plus to the world. When we began working on this side project 8 months ago, we had not imagined the impact it would bring to the community. With over 3900 active users and 3 community-built plugins published within just 2 weeks, we are incredibly grateful for all your support for our platform.

Despite the closing of Figma Plus, we promise to bring back our plugins in a better supported format in the future. If you are a developer building on Figma Plus, please contact us directly for next steps on how to continue your plugin development.

Thank you very much.

Jackie Chui, Ahmad Al Haddad and Mirko Santangelo

The impact, the work and the learning that you have certainly had, will echo for more than 8 months. Thank you very much! 🙏🏻

I can’t help the cognitive dissonance though. Two weeks ago you wrote “security is our top priority” in the release notes, highlighting how open and reviewed at the same time the system is, and now you’re pulling it because you decided it would be best to cease it, all of a sudden? I can’t wrap my head around it. Well, I have one idea but I’ll keep it to myself for now.

Sorry for causing the confusion. Security has indeed been our top priority, and we have done our best to ensure there would be no malicious code running on our platform. However, Figma as a business entity is obligated to prevent any third-party code from running on their users' systems, which includes plugin code we deemed to be safe, as well as the main Figma Plus code itself.

I hope you understand that we have negotiated and finally made our decision to protect both the Figma company's interests as well as our team members' legal liability.

Brutal. I can only hope that the timing of this means that they’re on the verge of releasing their own write API. A couple of plugins, like Find and Replace, are just too useful to uninstall without a forced update. I was on the verge of trying my hand at some enhancements around style management… glad I was a bit lazy on getting started on it! Excellent work on putting it all together, anyway, and I hope not too many hours of your life have been eaten up for nothing!

I've only been using Figma Plus for about 2 weeks or so, but thank you guys for the hard work and - even when you guys had to shut things down - remained as transparent as you can to us users. There is no reason to doubt that you guys have made the better decision. Looking forward to what the three of you will bring to the table in the future because from the looks of it, it has been top notch design and development work :)

@nate-green – that’s exactly the kind of response (from Sho Kuwamoto) I was expecting to read here from the team. Anyway, I’m really happy that you start working together, people. I just made use of the plugins which are still in my installation – here’s hoping it won’t take long to incorporate all this functionality officially. 👍

I’m afraid not anymore. My copy of the installer doesn’t work, i.e. does not install the thing. We need to wait again.

Unfortunately, no. I've already ported the RTL/Arabic plugin to the official extensions API. It will be available from the first day. Stay tuned.
