Color issues

June 6, 2019 at 6:18pm
I'm working on a project where the client's brand color is #C2002F / UIColor 0.76 0 0.18
In Figma this is rendering as a brighter than what is being rendered on the Web and inside the iPhone app.
I've attached a screenshot of the Figma swatch, exported Figma swatch and two screenshots of the same color rendered and pasted back into Figma (from iOS and Chrome).
Why are the colors all different? Do I have an incorrect setting? Is it a Figma issue? Is it another issue? Help!!

What's your current color profile in Figma: sRGB or unmanaged? In Chrome, did you change your color profile from default?

tl;dr -- color profiles are hard, as long as you have the right color values (for iOS and Chrome) I wouldn't sweat it =)

I don't see those settings in Chrome. Regardless, I can only assume my iOS device has a color profile and which isn't matching my Mac's - so when I screenshot on my phone I get a different color. If I screenshot within my Mac and resample the color I get the correct value. And when I export assets from Figma I also get the correct value. But if I go here: http://color.aurlien.net/#C2002F and take a screenshot I get #B22435. sigh

Also - I don't see how I can manage color profiles in Figma (besides maybe doing it via the Terminal)

Using Mac desktop app.

In Chrome you go to the URL "chrome://flags" and search "color" to find the force color profile mode, but to be honest, if you haven't ever messed with it before, it might not be worth the hassle. In any case, best of luck.

Any benefits to using an Unmanaged color profile?

Unmanaged = whatever profile your monitor is using, which is a benefit if your monitor delivers a wider color gamut than sRGB. Plus, you might use apps other than Figma that require a calibrated monitor, so you'd probably want to keep a consistent color profile.

Having the same problem as well. The color rendered in Figma desktop app is way brighter than Chrome. It's there any solution?

You can set the color space to sRGB in the desktop app, see: https://help.figma.com/article/196-figma-desktop-app#color

Thanks all. Yes - set your monitor to sRGB (if on a Mac: sys preferences > monitors) and then set Figma also to sRGB (and any other graphic software). This aligns everything.
