How to get rid of external team libraries?

Figma / General · February 15, 2018 at 7:33am

I will put it here, since I think I wasted the time of Figma support quite a bit, and I don't really want my poster hanging somewhere in their office with a label of "that guy", and I feel like the community might help out. So ... There is a couple of things I need help with, because the components and team libraries are far more complicated then they appear, or maybe I just didn't get enough coffee today. My first problem is:

I have Intradiem library in my list. I have no idea how it got there. I was told by CS that I must have opened some of their file and that is why I have it in my list. Which makes sense, but how do I get rid of it? I went through all the files and I don't have any Intradiem file anymore. There is no option to opt out. And I am not aware of using any of their components. And even if I did, there is zero chance for me to find it in the dozens of files, and dozens of pages. So I'm basically stuck with it. Is there some other way to get rid of it?

Hi @rojcyk.

First, the team library takes its name from the file that have the published components inside. So, you had a file called "Intradiem" with components, maybe not now, but you had it.

Normally if you delete all the components of a file and publish the changes, the Team library with that name disappears.

I do not know what happens if you delete the file of the components directly, without unpublishing them. Maybe is a bug and the library is "hanging".

Another option to rescue the file with the original components is to right click on a component of the "intradiem" Team Library -> Go to Master component.

Also, make a trick and create a new file called "Intradiem" and publish some components to the Team Library and see what happens... :)

The team library does takes its name from files. But the team does not. So there is an "Intradiem" team witch has Icons Library in it.

And when I go to the the master component, it takes me to a file I'm only able to preview. And there is not much I can do about it. Even if I duplicate the file, I still need to publish it. But once I do, it is inside my team, not in the Intradiem team.

Same here. I have deleted that Icons file. So, I try to put the component on my file and go to master component. Maybe I can do something about it, like remove the component from library. But unfortunately, the file is view only to me.

I don't have any idea how to remove it from my Team Libraries list..

Hi @rojcyk, we're taking a closer look. Not sure exactly what's happening there.

Hi Jason, I've run into this same problem after adding an external file with view only access; it was a Material Design Library in my case; the originating author must have a team library called "Thinking Twins" because even after duplicating the file, adding those components to my own team library, and deleting the View only Thinking Twins Material Design Library file I still have their team library name and I can see no way to get rid of it. This is probably easy to reproduce. Cheers, Ben

I have the same Intradiem library in my team libraries as well. Is there a solution to remove it yet?

Have you try this one? Go to the file that contain the components, if you don't have the file, put the instance in your file and click 'Go to Master Component'. Inside the file, click Share button, find your account in the list and change the status from 'can view' to remove. Hope this can help!

What I did was: Went to the file where the icons are located and removed the icons from library(Go to your left sidebar and switch from layers to components tab) and select all icons/elements and then right click and remove from library. After doing this, and you don't have any icon/element on the library, the library itself will disappear. That worked for me. :)

Have the same problem with the "Material Design UI Kit" by "Thinking Twins" I didn't even make a local copy, I just opened their view only file and now their components lurk around my libraries without allowing me to disable them.

Finding yourself in the list with hundreds of names with no sorting or searching was quite daunting.

I just used the browser find function to locate my name.

this problem still continues after one year, it is very annoying to see other libraries even you don't use.
