Font problems

January 3, 2020 at 8:14am
Hi! I'm quite new to Figma, so maybe this is a newbie question. But I can't seem to get my fonts to work. I'm using the desktop app, and the font I am using is a Google Font (Roboto Slab). I can see all the styles from the dropdown menu when selecting font, but only Regular seem to work. When I try to select one of the others Figma tells me that the fonts are not available. I also have the font manually installed on my mac, and it works in all other applications. What do I do? Need bold!

You're doing things the right way. The only things that pop into my head are:
or the font is corrupted (thou you already said that it works in other apps)

I'm having that exact same problem with the exact font. I have also similar problems with other fonts. I noticed Public Sans is not in the Figma fonts even though it is in Google Fonts. Same is true for Roboto Slab so I tried installing it on my Mac. That's when I had the same problem is describing. I have restarted numerous times. Roboto Slab works in other apps.
Well, I seem to have solved this. When installing a font like Roboto Slab, there is a file for variable weight font and also a folder for static versions of the different weights. Install both of them in FontBook (mac). Font book may tell you the are duplicates but and offer to fix it. Lssy yes, then relaunch Figma to use the various weights.
