When adding a "New Thing", auto populate cell with "CreationDate"

Thought this might be useful for folks.
Use Case:
  • "Add a new expense" , then it autopopulates with the date it was entered.

Hi David, Amit discussed issue of onEdit(e) not firing from the app in this post

I just tried to initiate this in one of my apps. It doesn't fire when creating a new row from the app, but does fire when I'm in the Google Sheet. Does it work in your app? Have you enabled something that allows it to work? It is a great idea, I have a few uses for this, so would love to see it functioning. Kind regards, Max Drake

Can the problem be related to the format of data you add? For example, numbers read as text?

Don't think so -- it's just on any modification/changes of the column 1 . . .
I didn't test on Glide . . . I assumed that if it worked on Sheets, it would work on Glide.
Ugh -- it also doesn't work on mine, which defeats the purpose of the "CreationDate" experience. Thanks for linking to the other post -- I didn't get it then because it wasn't relevant.

I wonder if there's something to be learned here from this Zapier time modification post: https://zapier.com/help/modifying-dates-and-times/
We can probably Zap it, but that's just too much for a "CreationDate" for my use case

Yup so just spent 15 minutes and found a workaround with Zapier . . .
These two are the references needed to solve it:
