Cannot use CNAME for root domain

October 21, 2020 at 11:35am
I am trying to configure a custom domain, as per the instructions on the Project Settings -> Domain tab. The instructions say to use a CNAME record, but that is not possible for a root domain (without www). The recommendation from my domain registrar is to use an ALIAS. I have configured an ALIAS record but Grapedrop is not detecting the DNS setting, as it only seems to look for CNAME. Please allow customers to use ALIAS records as well as CNAME records, so we can configure top level domain names.

ALIAS is a virtual record, but we can check what we can do. What is your domain?

I currently have a forwarding rule set up to point to www, since I can have a CNAME there. However, I'd like for the service to be at the root domain. What about an A record?
At the moment, we discourage the usage of A record but if it's necessary I'll let you know
