Ever since I started Niice, I’ve had a board that I dump all kinds of stuff I like into. I called it ‘*’ so it would stick to the top of my board list, and anytime I came across an image or video that I liked, I saved it there. It now has a couple of thousand images in it, and it’s the board we use when we want to ‘stress-test’ our layout engine: https://niice.co/m/3bb621ef3b42bb8edcb234ec7de2ecfa
For some reason, it never occurred to me that we should bake this behaviour into the interface itself. Then sent me a message suggesting a ‘pool’ for saving general images to, and I realised that this is something everyone could find useful.
Sometimes you just want to save something. You don’t want to have to think about where. You just like it, and want to keep it for later.
So we’re thinking of creating a new default board called 'My Likes'. It’ll be a lot like your other boards, except you won’t be able to add collaborators (this is your private, secret stash) and you won’t be able to delete it. We’re also going to add a new '♥' button to the search view, alongside the trusty '+', that will save the image directly to your Likes board. So you can see something and save it with a click... then worry about sorting it later.
What do you think? Would something like this be useful to you?

I just want to point out that you really have a product naming problem (joke). I am using Niice to keep me organized so I'm not quite sure I'd want a board that "just sits there for no specific purpose". I am also not sure I want a "heart" button to this specific end. Wouldn't that be better used as a clear visual indication of a client's favorite assets on a board? Finally, if we are going to get a '+' sign, I'd hope it to be used towards client actions as well (I know, surprising). So while I personally like the idea (your secret board assets look fresh), from my use case perspective, I do not think it'd add much value to the app. Just my 2 cents.

This is exactly what I do with one of my own mood boards. It's a collection of references, of things I saw and liked or even liked only a small thing about them. I saved them for inspiration later. Since having a collective pool of imagery and videos is where I start when i need to draw inspiration at the start of a project, or i need to jump start my thoughts.

good feedback thanks :) it’s maybe not clear but this mock-up is just showing how it would work from the search view... if we add it to the board editor as well it’ll likely be a lot less prominent (I.e. in a drop-down menu somewhere). though I want to avoid confusion with the ‘star’ tool that currently enables clients to select favourites on a board for feedback purposes

Oh gotcha! I was assuming it'd be for all boards, thanks for the clarification. If it's only in the search view then I think this extra feature would be fine. Can you send me more details about the star tool btw?

The only thing that comes to mind is you kind of do this with the "+" icon already. Granted you have to have your chosen board selected first at the top.

yeah I’m rethinking the whole 'choose a board before you save anything' interaction at the moment too... I think it could be a lot more streamlined.
