Social image dimensions template (work in progress)

June 11, 2018 at 2:45pm
We've been chatting to a few people from advertising agencies and we have heard time and time again how time consuming it can be creating mock-ups for content marketing on social media using the likes of Photoshop or InDesign.
We wonder if a template like this would make that job a little bit easier? You can drop in your images, in all different sizes, and see everything side-by-side for all of your social networks. You can then grab the URL and email it to someone for feedback or sign-off
We would appreciate your thoughts, is this something you'd find useful?
Here's Instagram as an example, but we'd also like to create these templates for Twitter, Facebook etc.

Feedback: 1) Spectrum-related: I wish it was possible to click on images to open their high resolution versions. 2) Feature-related: are you saying that the image blocks in the social image dimensions template above will be fixed, and all we have to do is to upload our random-sized image in those 4 blocks and the board will generate the correctly-sized previews?

Yes Nadine :) The placeholders will automatically resize your images when you upload them! We'd like to do something like this for Facebook & Twitter as well, but we're open to other suggestions.

would it also be useful to be able to export the cropped versions, or does that not really matter at this stage?

Ok great! I guess Pinterest would be a great addition since it's big on visuals.

For my own marketing needs or my private clients, 3 rounds of design revisions are the max needed before hitting publish on social media. So yes, being able to export the cropped versions would be a killer feature.

I think templates like what people are used to using would be a great addition, Pinterest does come to mind, the Instagram one works great, so maybe also things like facebook and twitter would be a good option. Another idea i like is something like the Mr Porter website, https://www.mrporter.com/ I know you could arguably create one like this but it would be good to have it out of the box, great work though, loving niice

Ohh interesting! 🧐 Is it the layout of the Mr Porter website you like Dave? What kind of sections would you need for something like this? (Like... what would you expect the sections of the template to be called?)

Interesting Nadine, I'd imagine something like the would save you a lot of time on revisions.

Actually, thinking about it quickly it would be nice if you could have links at the top of the page under he header title that maybe takes you to a specific section, so a bit like a menu link on a website. I know this wouldnt work if you download a pdf/jpeg etc but it would make it easy to navigate, maybe even linking sub-boards in the menu. It's just an idea, but it would then make the sections more relevant as you could scroll directly to them?

That sounds good... I would imagine that kind of feature would be useful, especially for 'heavier' boards with a lot of content.
Also, in terms of client review & feedback, if you were sending the board to a client and wanted them to check out a particular section you could just say 'check this out under XXX section' to save them wandering through a board trying to find the thing you're talking about.
Food for thought... I like it 👍

YES! When I worked in-house at Withings/Nokia we wasted a tonne of the Studio team's time simply re-sizing images for all our different social profiles.

Which social channels do you think we should do these image dimensions templates for? 😊
