Anza Borrego Desert SuperbloomMarch 23, 2019 at 11:18am
Superbloom in the Anza Borrego Desert of southern California with my “pocket” hdr landscape rig. Sony a5100. Sony 16mm f2.8 pancake plus Sony UWA ultra wide converter for an 18mm equivalent field of view. In-camera HDR. I have developed 3 custom HDR filters for the camera and my work. Plus each shot needs some radial filtering to remove the lens vignetting typical of ultra wides.

Basically the same as processing any digital file only more so :) I begin with in-camera HDR, jpegs, mostly using the Auto setting on my Sony cameras. + 70 shadows to begin. - 10 highlights on some cameras. (Not needed on the Sony a5100.) A bit of Vibrance, a bit of clarity (careful with both so the colors don’t block up, and so you don’t get too many digital artifacts (noise). You can only really use much Clairity on low ISO images. A bit of sharpen. Then, a touch of Dehaze to make the sky pop...not too much or the greens will darken. Adjust to taste and save as your basic HDR filter. For the a5100 I also have two that lighten the image more by boosting whites, and lightening blacks, and using more + shadow. But that is because I sometimes intentionally underexpose to hold the highlights.
