In-House Remote Teams with Great Culture?

January 9, 2019 at 9:31pm

Doing some research into non-agency teams that work well remotely and also have a great culture to go along with it. Doesn't have to be a fully-remote team, just allowing remote folks to join the team without relocating. What are some of your faves?

Hey Dennis,

Self promo but we're about 50/50 remote and embrace it https://www.goabstract.com/careers

How much of the design team is remote? Looks like the open role there is only SF so just double checking!

Heard great things about the teams at Buffer, Doist, and Automattic.

If you're wanting to dig a little more, this is a great podcast: https://www.yonder.io/post?category=Podcast

@cortes oops I hadn't realized that. Most of the design team is in SF but we do have some remote designers. The rest of the product team is remote though!

@cortes Not sure if we are a 100% fit to your question, but I work on a completely remote team of 3 people (once 7) since 3 years. We only meet in person once a year. We develop a tool for distributed teams, called Lito. https://getlito.co Happy to chat about our culture and experience.

Hey @cortes, GitLab and Turtle are both 100% remote. GitLab has over 400 ppl and is valued at over a billion now.

GitLab’s CEO and I are actually doing a livestream re: Remote Teams tomorrow. Do you have any culture specific question you’d like to ask? Or please feel free to join and ask live tomorrow.

I work on a distributed team at Adobe. It works well for us, but I would say not every manager and team is on board with it.

100% of the front-end team at my company is remote. (Half dozen people) Culture is solid. We use Slack and Zoom alot to communicate. Plus Figma is always a help.
