Color me intrigued; a lot of the mindset is in the right place it seems

Obviously we won't know until someone gets their hands on it

Yeah I agree. From the looks of Invision Studio, I think it is going to disappoint in what I hopes it would be. This looks more closely aligned to what I am wanting from a UI tool.

If Framer had components that would be awesome, but copying from one file to another is the old school of doing things.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. Looks to be making in progress in a lot of areas. Though it looks like it doesn't take advantage of document flow?

Hey Colm, what do you mean by Document flow?

DOM tree. Objects look absolutely positioned in Phase, judging by the alignment/distribution controls.

I see what your saying, hopefully it launches early summer rather than later so we can test it out.

my only concern is that they didn't *show* anything really...

makes me a little skeptical. Studio played coy too which made people think it's a lot more than it is.

This is exciting. I hope it kicks Invision Studio's ass

This whole waiting for a roll out thing is just to build hype. If they build to much hype around something it more than likely will fail to meet expectations.

i have faith they'll ship this one, but I'm not bullish on the industry's tendency to make the same tool over and over again. Everyone's just building Sketch and trying to do it faster than Sketch.

At first glance, this looks like Sketch with interaction prototyping, much more manageable components/symbols and a much better workflow for reusable styles. Still good progress, and I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like a step sideways.

so framer's plugins are called modules? I didn't even know this existed.

The video doesn't do it justice. I'm the type of person that typically watches the vid then moves on unless it really peaks my interest. At first glance it just seemed like it does everything Studio is doing... but after reading the article it really seems like they are taking a thoughtful approach to it. I really liked the point that elements should have states and having pre-defined page sizes is kind of crazy when you think about. Thanks for sharing

's point about every tool trying to be a "faster" sketch is exactly why I haven't been that hyped on new tools. The only axis they improve on is speed and workflow efficiency with basic tools. There's no improvement on creative output.
Could be why there's a lot more work looking the same.. less evolution. Try to do something _new_ in Sketch and it suddenly gets 5x more difficult/impossible.
We need more powerful tools, with more creative options and that let us explore more. Taking time to get to solutions isn't a bad thing. It looks like Phase is paying SOME lip service to this.
Still nowhere has reached the level of power of illustrator / photoshop but with the efficiency of Sketch. Meaning we're in a highly efficient, creative stasis. And constantly moving along that. I realize it's all up to the designer, but since there's all these tools I'm just sharing what I'd like to see.

To be clear, my point was that they’re trying to build sketch’s roadmap first. Eventually, we’ll just have 5 of the same tool.

Do you still use Figma or did you go back to Sketch?
  • reply
  • like
lol no. I havent used sketch in years. Switched to Figma full time in the beta. That said, I rarely do design work these days besides icons...
