To create a theme for Saleor do I have to know React?

My team and I hate react. We prefer vue.js. But lean more towards html templates like jinja2 and twig. Really trying to push our sales team to use Saleor. So far there has been a lot of push back. Because we have so much experience in Magento and Woo.

Hey! Well, if you would like to do some changes in the dashboard or front, then you should know React.

, As Karol said. Our dashboard is written in react, and sample storefront also. But Saleor is headless so you can write your own storefront client in vue or other technology.

So unless I want to completely write a whole new frontend I have to use React. Gotcha. Welp looks like we won't be push Saleor anytime soon. That's a deal breaker for us.

Hello karol and Maciej, I must understand that I can customize the dashboard if I am familiar with react? Also i have to know if saleor is open-source and free? the official website is too commercial.

Saleor is built with open-source technologies and it's 100% open-source itself! The saleor.io website is for our entire platform, which includes the hosted, paid version of Saleor. But the key components - API, dashboard and storefront - are free and you can get them from Github.
See the opens-source section on our website: https://saleor.io/open-source/

Hi there! Just like Marcin said - Saleor is headless and 100% open-source. That means it's designed for change and easy customization. However, I recommend you to know React, if you would like to modify the dash. How would you like to customize it?
If you have any questions, we're here to help.

Preferably it would be nice to just use CSS to create themes and not have to touch React. Is this possible?

Ah okay, thank you taking the time to clarifying the difference between the opensource Saleor and the additional services offered by the team. now I see more clearly the link between Salero and saleor.io website.

Hello , I am familiar with react / react native development. So the knowledge side is not a problem. Regarding the modifications to the dashboard, I plan to make two types of modification:1 a superficial midification such as adapting the dahsbord to the cash on delivery business model for example / or adding specific attributes to a type of product / add metafiedls for example hex code for a variant color .....

2/ I also hope to be able to add a little more advanced functionality: like BOGO discounts (buy one get one).

I know that since saleor is open-source, these modifications are possible. I wonder how easy is it to add these changes? has the platform been developed with the possibility of modifications offered to developers?
Excuse me for asking all these questions, because before proposing the switch from shopify to Saleor to my company I must have answers to these questions during the meeting, so thank you for your understanding. We have already opted for the headless frontend, we are now studying the possibilities of the Backend PS: I am motivated to switch to saleor as it is a modern platform. The Saleor team did a good job.

We are improving the flexibility and posibility to customize the Saleor. I know that sometimes it can be hard. We already introduced the metafields, for most of the types. You can retrieve/change the value of meta fields over Api. We added the plugin architecture to Saleor, which can gives you a lot of possibilities to customize your shop. It is still basic feature, but we are working on it. We also added support for webhook subscription. Now, We're working on some way to customize the dashboard by serving the iframe page, but for know it hasn't beed merged/released yet

Hi , Thank you for your response. It's already good, which has been integrated so far. I will start the deployment, and I will try to deal with this on a case-by-case basis as I go along. I would certainly need your help later. Thank you again for the effort invested ❤️
