Saleor 3.0 - Multichannel

Saleor 3.0 - Multichannel

July 29, 2020 at 12:31pm (Edited 2 months ago)
With the release of 3.0, Saleor will support Multichannel. It will bring major changes to the code as well as to the UI. Saleor users will be able to create multiple sales channels, each with specific UUID, allowing them to differentiate their sales points. Each order will be assigned to the channel that it was placed from. Users will be able to individually assign availability for products, categories, collections and vouchers for each channel. Multichannel will support multiple currencies, so users will be able to assign different currencies to each channel. Delivering this feature will make UI changes that will allow you to define values and prices to products, vouchers, shipping rates and more. This is our top priority right now.
Feedback and questions are always welcome! Please share your thoughts in the comments :)

2 reasons I haven't adopted Saleor (maybe these are fixed now, and I'm unaware) Lack of UI Templates/Templating engine, Custom shipping (my shipping is calculated in a third party system).

Thanks for the feedback Richard. Could you elaborate a little more about your custom shipping requirements?

this is awesome. A feature important for our upcoming Saleor project. Are there any details on the features that will be included so that I can review ? Is there an option so we can we allocate qty AND /OR centralize it for different channel?

Any more documentation on multichannel and what exactly it involves? Is there an ability to associate staff members with specific channels?

Hi, excuse my ignorance, wondering if multi-channel equates to multi-site? Using this feature could one create separate front-end shop instances on separate domains, all using the standard storefront? Thanks! :-)

I hope you can add the ability to add products to multiple categories. This is very needed and most other solutions have this. This is a blocker for me unfortunately. https://github.com/mirumee/saleor/issues/5350

I saw elsewhere that it was planned for "end of Q3/20" which would be a couple months

I would think so. Multi-channel usually means website, mobile app, point of sale, etc. There shouldn't be a restriction on two or more channels all being a website.

Hi, is there Inventory manager planned in 3.0? Ability to list inventory of all products & variants in a single view and edit Quantity directly? We have done a makeshift - custom development of this feature. I can be reached @ [email protected] for custom development as well

Hi there! You will just have to update your version of Saleor. If updating to Saleor 3.0 requires more specific actions, I'll let you know.

Hey! Thanks for asking. We plan to implement such a feature, but it won't be available anytime soon. If you would like to help us with the code, PRs are always welcome - https://github.com/mirumee/saleor/pulls :)

Hi yes, the shipping for my products are drop shipped. The shipping is actually calculated in from a third party/api. The reason is everything is freight shipped and they have multiple warehouses. The shipping company will determine which warehouse and what the shipping costs will be.

Sounds like you would need a custom plugin to talk with that 3rd party API. And I believe Saleor is already set up to allow plugins to calculate shipping costs.

From what I understand, the plugin system is relatively new and documentation is still somewhat sparse. https://docs.saleor.io/docs/developer/extending/plugins
I've only just started on my own project and Saleor, but I've been working on a plugin recently so I knew it was in there. This might be the only function you need to implement: https://github.com/mirumee/saleor/blob/565a85f8193f0252911795d7fdbd3354a1781052/saleor/plugins/base_plugin.py#L111

It sounds like from Saleor's standpoint the shipping process could be modeled as a single warehouse with all of the internal complexity abstracted away?
