if every 1px increment is an option, you have 8x the possible options without an 8pt grid (12x for a 12pt grid, 4x for a 4pt grid, and so on)
so, an upside of using a system like this is that it *removes* options
there's less fiddling available to you, so you can stop spending time doing that faster
