Desktop App: Beta testers

May 28, 2018 at 2:17pm (Edited 4 years ago)
We were getting ready to ship the desktop app for Spectrum, and we could use some beta testers! (push notifications 😍) Let us know below if you want to test it out and I'll get y'all a build very soon.

Thanks everyone for all these reports! If you have a second, would you mind filing issues here: https://github.com/withspectrum/spectrum/issues/new and prefix the issue with [Desktop]

I've already snagged a bunch of these reports, but it's a bit tough to keep up with everyone testing! :D
I wanna test it :D

Download link for windows?
I tried that, but it felt super unexpected to me πŸ˜… I'm open to ideas on making that work though, I agree that it's not ideal yet!
Just started trying the app, and I don't know if it's already been suggested but I think it would look great without the macOS native top bar. This is something I do with my app Boxy and it wildly improves the native feeling.

That doesn't look bad! Could get rid of the logo and just show the nav items
Right, didn't think about it. Maybe back/forward buttons could be there, where I expected them to appear and I think many users would as well
I think that would be very unexpected in a desktop app though
, how can I download the desktop application for windows?
Mmmh really depends, if it's subtle enough I think it would be a very welcome feature
Another little suggestion. You can currently select UI elements, so I would put a user-select: none; on those because it's one of those little things that makes apps feel like websites

Keep in mind that header needs to be 38px tall if you want to center the traffic lights (weird Electron thing).
Yeah we just ran into that πŸ™ˆ Won't work for us unfortunately
I wish Electron gave you the controls to move those around
38 is what Apple uses for calendar/photos/...
What we might be able to do though is extend the navbar by 38px on top of the exiting one so at least it doesn't show that grey bar, although I'm not sure that would look super great
Yeah I assumed it was an Apple thing, I'd still love to move 'em to be centered with our navbar though
Just remembered the Electron thing. For Boxy we use a custom WKWebView so we can do basically whatever we want (but of course with more headaches on many side than Electron would give us)
