Plus button icon on main layout area(workspace) to create new file

Hi, Can anyone tell me if this feature is available/ in the pipeline or could you suggest ideas to implement the following feature: Essentially, I'd like to have a + (plus icon) on the main area of the layout at all times for the user to click on it and add a new file instead of navigating to the File menu and clicking on New File. Guidance appreciated. Thanks.

What do you mean by the main are of the layout? The explorer toolbar?
Could you open a new issue please?
I meant the header of the main area on which the files are opened. The file names are tabbed on the top and the users would be able to switch between files, correct? So, it'd be useful for the user to create a new file by clicking an icon(say, a plus button) which would ideally be placed after the last file on the header. Please refer the attached image.

No, nothing like that is planned to have by default. You should be able to implement it in your product via a custom extension by customizing ToolbarAwareTabBar.

I'm trying to extend the base class ToolbarAwareTabBar, but I'm getting this error. What am I missing here?

Never mind. I have registered a toolbar item and plus icon pops up on the top right corner of the main panel. That satisfies my use case. Now, how can I frame the isVisible method of the toolbarRegistry.registerItem method to return true/enabled only for mainPanel and return false/invisble for sidePanels/ bottom Panels?
I need it enabled/visible only for ToolBarAwareTabBar and disabled/invisible for SideTabBar
