For those of us with iPad Pro’s, we love using this device on the go. It’s a perfect travel companion. Figma, though, doesn’t currently yet work with the iPad Pro in any way. For a designer like myself, it would be a game changer. Please make an iPad app for us!

Agreed! it works on chromebooks, why not iPad pro's they're more than powerfull enough.

+1 What's the biggest holdback for getting Figma work on iPad Pro's?

I believe it's how the iPad interprets inputs. It's not as easy as it seems.

this really would be a game changer. figma would be the only reputable player in the ui design space to support iPad. Probably half of the design team here at WillowTree would jump on board that boat

Thanks for the feedback everyone! @mrbrianhinton is pretty spot on. The Figma UI relies on many small hit targets too small for fingers, or even pen tools. So it would be large undertaking to have a great iPad product.

From what I know, the lack of virtual memory on iOS is also an issue. Products like the Surface have this, but iOS still does not. It'd be pretty difficult to emulate that from the sandbox of the browser. Many of the designers at Figma have experience developing for iOS (so we'd love to have it too!), and while the iPad Pro is getting closer to being a full OS, it's still something that is a roadblock for now. Hope that helps provide some additional clarification :)

For me, I'd be happy even if an iPad app could just load a document and allow drawing with the Pencil and then go back to a laptop to do everything else. Since Macs still have no pen or touch input, sketching is what I'd want to fold in the iPad Pro for.

Found out you can actually kind of use Figma on the iPad: https://twitter.com/neversitdull/status/936123470382972929

I don't honestly understand what that's virtual memory is he talking about. I really presume iPad Pro is already powerful enough with that A10 chip I think that is almost desktop class. Also even newer iPads even smaller ones has the same processor as I've heard so I bet it's not an issue anymore. Some users use Figma on Safari on iPad. So I don't see the point why this can't happen

Also I've heard iOS already supports web apps to be submitted on iOS App Store just like the movie VOD apps, so maybe a little bit of user agent and device targeting, and a custom touch optimized blown up interface and touch point on the web app, some native APIs and components like support for Apple Pencil and it could already work

I mean that's all my assumption as a designer and as a implementation suggestion. I don't really develop so I would love to be corrected

I’d be fine with a dumbed down version of the interface that simply lets you change colors, text, navigate pages, go into presentation mode and control pages while showing the UI on a screen through airplay. There’s plenty you could leverage without having the full-blown abilities for now.

Do progressive web apps help us get any closer to Figma on the iPad Pro?

They added some new capabilities in iOS 11.3 for web apps.

+1 ... iPad Pro and Apple Pencil support would be very cool :) but having played around with iOS code editors and game dev tools on the iPad I can appreciate the input challenges :(

I'd actually settle for a companion app that had easy direct export/integration to Figma. Sketching for Figma.

+1 tried using safari on ipad to open one of my heavy figma doc, and it works like a charm! albeit no optimization or editing capabilities, being able to view the doc on the go is super nice and could potentially be a game changer. I'd love to see a full featured figma client on ipad pro though. It could be soooooo much fun
