USDZ converter in Vectary!

September 13, 2018 at 9:07am
Need a free, online and easy USDZ file converter? Vectary is the first online 3D to USDZ converter that is also a 3D design tool for anyone, who wants to learn how to create AR / 3D content.
You can start creating from scratch or just convert your existing 3D models (OBJ, STL, DAO, GLB, GLTF) to USDZ.

If you are having issues with USDZ file, try this:
Downscale the resolution of the model's textures in export
Simplify geometry and reduce materials count
Make sure you have max 100k polygons

Hi guys, we received this interesting feedback via twitter from our user. I thought I post it here in case anyone has the same issue. He was trying to convert a test GLB file to USDZ and it wasn't showing up in Safari. He solved it by downscaling the texture size to 512px:
"Thank you for the information.I checked again.
Downscale it to 512 px was successful !
I used 8 textures of 1024 x 1024 px for the verification shape.
BaseColor / ORM / Normal 8x3 = 24 textures...
glb 2.5MB to usdz 7.8MB (1024 px tex).
glb 2.5MB to usdz 4.8MB (512 px tex)."

Hi , there are some limitations in USDZ formats. USDZ in ARKit supports only geometry with PBR materials. You can't get lights in augmented reality right now with Apple's USDZ format. Apple uses only HDRI environment as a light for the scene and shadow catcher is the top projection of all objects. There is no option to use custom lights right now.

The effect I want to use is a light emitter, like the TV screen here: https://developer.apple.com/arkit/gallery/

hmm, it seems to work with emission, but there is no actual light falling on the object itself

Dear Dmitry, do you mind copying the link and pasting it here? You can do it by right-clicking the link and then clicking "Copy link address". Thanks for the extra info in advance!

Hi , we've added a pure link under the button in USDZ email. You can export USDZ again to try it out.

Do you support making an animated usdz file? Apple has an example of a toy biplane with a rotating propeller and it bounces a bit. I'd like to try to upload a series of .obj or .stl files and save these as short (like 5 frames) animation. Any idea if this is currently possible or something you're working on (again assuming it all falls within the existing usdz file size limitations)?

Hi Skye, Vectary currently does not support animations (not even imported ones), but we are working on it. :)
