We're building Wodby 2.0

August 8, 2019 at 9:18am (Edited 6 months ago)
Some of our customers already know it – we're actively working on a 2.0 version of Wodby. We're building it from scratch, so the current version will continue working for a while. Public beta scheduled on the end of 2019 but things may change (you know how it is). We will have two versions of Wodby running and plan to gradually migrate customers once the new version becomes stable. The reason we've started building it is that the current version has a way too many architectural constraints that just don't let us release new features easily and scale the variety of our stacks.
Just a few ideas we've put in the new version:
  1. Built-in container-based CI/CD. No more direct git integrations and no need to pay for third-party CI. This will allow quickly revert to previous builds and pull images locally
  2. Scalability by default. Cloud providers with managed Kubernetes services (the big three) will be preferred over VPS
  3. Managed stack services over managed stacks, i.e. it used to be Drupal stack and now it will be separate managed services: Nginx/Apache, PHP/Ruby/Python, MariaDB/PostgreSQL/MongoDB, Solr/Elasticsearch and etc, that you can combine however you like in your own stack and still get the updates
If you have any suggestions about what should be included in Wodby 2.0, please leave a comment!
UPDATE Jan 15 2020: We plan to release alpha (or private beta) version in Q1, 2020 and public beta in Q2, 2020
UPDATE 2: Private beta release postponed to Q2. Public beta expected later.
UPDATE 3: Since Spectrum is going to become read-only we will no longer post here, instead you can follow for Wodby 2.0 updates on our twitter: https://twitter.com/wodbycloud

Exciting! Good luck and have a great fun in the process ;)
Hope Big Three includes DigitalOcean :)

Wow interesting! What about custom stacks and deployment on custom servers? I hope these migrations will be no painful.
It should be easier to assemble custom stacks with the new version.

Exciting news :-) Are you able to elaborate a bit more on the Cloud providers with managed Kubernetes services (the big three) will be preferred over VPS part?
We want to let people scale their apps, the simplest and cheapest way to do that is to use managed Kubernetes service offered by cloud providers like GCP, DigitalOcean, AWS, Azure and related services like block storages and managed DBMS. If you're having a droplet you can as well use DigitalOcean Kubernetes with only 1 node. Of course not all providers currently offer managed Kubernetes but we expect this to change during the next few years.

How is it going with Wodby 2.0? Is there an ETA and a list of features / improvements over the current version?
we're preparing a private beta release, a small set of customers will be invited this month and next to try out things (we will do wipes, so no permanent deployments).
Because we're building Wodby 2.0 from scratch it will have limited functionality at the start with more things added down the road. The major improvements described in this post: built-in CI/CD, scalability (integration with GKE/DOKS/EKS/AKS), maintainability via services rather stacks, etc.

is there a sign-up form for beta testing?

Hi! Would love to help Beta test Wodby 2.0 - need to exercise a new Wordpress stack along side our Elixir app - would love to eventually look at hosting Elixir on Wodby (we already have a docker-compose with PG & Elasticsearch, etc)

Hi , thankyou for the excellent Wodby platform! I would also love to beta-test Wodby 2.0 if/when available! Thanks
